What is this site?

My personal site. Under Writing are the posts, mostly about politics, privacy and self-hosting, plus whatever else bugged me enough to write it down, while Projects has the software I've built and Publications the papers. The games are under Games. Who I am is on About.

How often do you post?

Whenever something bugs me enough. There is no schedule. Once almost a year went by between two posts.

Why are some posts in German too?

A few posts exist in both languages. If a post has a German version, there's a link to it right under the title. The rest of the site has a German version as well, only the menu stays English everywhere.

How do I follow new posts?

The subscribe page has RSS, Atom and JSON feeds in two flavours. One has every post. The international one leaves out the posts that only make sense if you follow Austrian politics closely.

Can I comment?

Yes, at the end of each post. The comments run on Isso, which I host myself, so you don't need an account anywhere. The English and German version of a post share one thread. Be decent. Spam and obvious abuse get removed, otherwise say what you think.

Do you track me?

I count visits with Umami and GoatCounter, both running on my own server. The Umami numbers are public. There is no Google Analytics and there are no ads. The site sits behind Cloudflare, so Cloudflare sees your request on its way here. It's also registered with the Google and Bing search consoles because I want to know how it shows up in search.

The games keep your progress in your own browser and only download their word lists and puzzles from this site, so nothing about how you play ever comes back to me.

Does it work without JavaScript?

Reading does. A post is complete without any script. Scripts only load for the parts that need them, like charts, the comments or the games.

What does "Request access" on a project mean?

Some projects aren't open to everyone. The button opens an email to me with the project's name in the subject line. There's no form and no account behind it.
